Jay Z, Game Beef Escalates

I nicked this story from MTV News (okay, sue me!), and I thought it pretty covers the entire beef saga between Jay Z and Game. Don't forget that in my last commentary on Jay Z I stated that chances are pretty high that he's going to lose his battle against the Auto Tune. Although this writer seems mesmerized by Hov, he still acknowledges that Jay may have bitten more than he can chew by taking on the Auto Tune. Anyway, enuff of my perspective, let's get that of a gentleman known as Shaheem Reid…

The Game may be open to reconciling with 50 Cent and the G-Unit, but when it comes to Jay-Z, it doesn't seem like there is any love for one of his great rap influences.

On Thursday at his tour opener in Las Vegas, Jay kicked an a cappella line where he mentioned some of his past foes, as well as former friends.

"I ain't talking about gossip/ I ain't talking about Game," Hov rapped. "I ain't talking about Jimmy/ I ain't talking about Dame ... Dame made millions/ Even Jaz made some scraps/ He could've made more, but he ain't sign his contract."

Jim Jones and Game responded on the Fourth of July via their Twitter accounts.

"Question: if someone says in the song 'I'm not talkin' bout Jimmy,' is that not talkin' bout Jimmy? LOL," Jones tweeted. "We are back in business, people."

"Aight so, after about 10,000 responses ... The results read that he ain't dissin me," Game tweeted. "And as bad as I want to respond to his old a--, he can slide."

However, apparently Game changed his mind. In video footage that has been posted online, Game is seen calling out Hov onstage at a concert in France.

"We ain't come to play no games today," Game rapped. "We in Bordeaux, France ... F--- Jay-Z, if you don't like that, you can find an exit somewhere."

Game then leads the crowd in an obscene chant against Hov.

Game has both given props to and dissed Jay publicly many times before. Hov has never officially responded to him in song, although many inferred that several lines in the original "Dear Summer" freestyle Jay spit several years ago on Funk Master Flex's radio show ("You saying my name to entertain your crew/ I ain't playing no games, sh--, the game's through ... You playing a game you know you can't win/ Quit playing them childish games with grown men") were directed at the Compton MC.

Obama Remark Irks US Police!!

It seems the race issue will never be too far behind our man in the States Barack Obama. Only recently, his close friend, a Harvard University don, was arrested in his own house after reporting a burglary. Read the story below from the Associated Press and make up your own mind.

A white police sergeant who arrested renowned black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. said Thursday he's disappointed President Barack Obama said officers acted "stupidly," despite acknowledging he didn't know all the facts.

Sgt. James Crowley responded to Gates' home near Harvard University last week to investigate a report of a burglary and demanded Gates show him identification. Police say Gates at first refused and accused the officer of racism.

Gates was charged with disorderly conduct. The charge was dropped Tuesday, and Gates has since demanded an apology from Crowley.

Obama was asked about the arrest of Gates, who is his friend, at the end of a nationally televised news conference on health care Wednesday night.

"I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry," Obama said. "Number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home. And number three — what I think we know separate and apart from this incident — is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately, and that's just a fact."

In radio interviews Thursday morning, Crowley maintained he had done nothing wrong in arresting Gates.

"I support the president to a point, yes, I think it's disappointing that he waded into what should be a local issue and something that plays out here," Crowley told WEEI. "As he himself said ... he doesn't know all the facts."

In this photo taken by a neighbour Thursday July 16, 2009 Henry Louis Gates Jr. centre, the director of Harvard University's W.E.B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research, is arrested at his home. Police say they were called to the home of Gates after a woman reported seeing a man try to pry open the front door.

Harry Potter Star’s Magical Escape

Harry Potter star Jamie Waylett was spared prison for drug offences yesterday on his 20th birthday.

Waylett, Hogwarts bully Vincent Crabbe in the films, had been warned he faced jail for growing 10 cannabis plants in his bedroom. But after a judge heard how he had vowed never to be in court again, he was given 120 hours community work.

District judge Timothy Workman told Waylett, from Kilburn:"I accept cultivation was not commercial."

Darren Watts, prosecuting at Westminster magistrates, said Waylett and his friend John Innis, 20, had been stopped by police last April. Cannabis was found in the car.

Innis, of Barnet, who admitted possessing cannabis and a knife, got six weeks youth custody and a KShs. 65,000 fine. Hmmmm, I wonder, did the magical Hogwarts have anything to do with this?

Chris Brown Apologizes To Rihanna...After 6 Months!

In a video posted to his official website Monday, a somber Brown extends an apology for the incident, saying he wanted to “publicly express my deepest regret and accept full responsibility.” Sincere, or raring for a comeback ?I say both. Any publicity-cheap,bad or good is better than not knowing you existed at all. Check out the video clip below and judge for yourself; is Chris Brizzy sincere or just doing this for the publicity before the launch of his new album?

Harry Pothead To Be Sentenced Tomorrow

Harry Potter star Jamie Waylett last week pleaded guilty to growing cannabis (weed, ganja, bhang). Waylett, who plays school bully Vincent Crabbe in the Potter franchise, was arrested in April for taking a photograph of two police officers as he drove past them. After confiscating his camera, officers discovered an image of cannabis plants.

Police visited the actor's flat in Kilburn in London and found about KShs. 260,000 worth of herbal cannabis plants.

In Westminster Magistrates' Court on July 16th last week, the 19-year-old pleaded guilty to growing 10 of the plants. His friend, who was arrested alongside Waylett, admitted possession of a knife and having 11 bags of cannabis after police discovered the items in a search of his car.

Growing cannabis carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison, but the Harry Potter star's lawyer pleaded with a judge not to send him to jail for the sake of his career.

Waylett will be sentenced tomorrow.

The Death of Jay Z

Through his lead single “Death of Auto-tune” Rap’s divine MC Jay Z may have picked an effective strategy to create buzz and excitement about his upcoming Blueprint 3 album, however, I feel that failure to “kill” the use and popularity of the auto-tune on his part could mean instant mortality for the MC.
This is My Case for the Re-Birth of the Auto Tune
The auto tune is the perfect tool in a highly competitive market; producers, musicians and record companies want to churn out as many hits as possible, as quickly as is musically possible. Why? In this highly competitive market, they don’t know how long they will remain at the top (can someone say Chamillionaire?). They have no time to tinker with their dials to create masterpieces; they simply let the auto tune take care of all their flaws.
In the digital world, everyone is a producer, and we’re all capable of releasing our very own music hit; the digital world is now about the individual (and what the individual wants or thinks). It’s not about what Jay Z says (or thinks he says). Ultimately, it all boils down to the words of famous pop culture philosopher, Andy Warhol, “...everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame.” So, why should Jay Z hog all the shine? If a guy with no talent like T Pain can make it, then it means we all have a chance. Besides, thanks to technology, the world’s now everyone’s stage!
The auto tune has helped far too many artists to succeed; Jay Z, though he may be the most influential hip hop musician alive, is only one man. The auto tune however, has added spice to the music industry and made tens of artists sound much nicer than they would’ve ever imagined. The combined appeal of all the artists who’ve benefited from the auto tune far outweighs that of Hov.
The auto tune makes our ringtones sound better; the mobile phone is taking over the world of entertainment. The auto tune compliments the mobile phone (and digital technology) like the sequined glove did for Michael Jackson. At the moment, Jay Z’s looking like the dinosaur a couple of months before the great comet crashes into the earth. There’s absolutely no doubt that 40-something year old Sean Carter has been living on borrowed time and it looks like the auto tune’s about to give him his much deserved moment of silence. These are just some of the few reasons why Jay Z’s fighting a losing battle. There’s no doubt that Jay Z will outsell the irrelevant and talentless 50 Cent come September 11th (the 2 MC’s are having a head-to-head battle to see whose album will outsell the other after the 1st week of release), but should auto – tune inspired music continue to thrive (and in particular T Pain), then Jay Z will have probably signed his own death execution. And especially since that the battle between Jay Z and the Auto tune (read, T-Pain) is one that pits the establishment versus the new revolution; the old versus the young, the innovative versus the conservatives, the old guard versus the new kid on the block. As far as this writer is concerned, Jay Z should’ve stayed in retirement. The Blueprint 3 was a really bad idea. But hey, don’t take my word for it, I’m just a blogger. I think I’ve said enough for one blog entry; Na na, hey hey, goodbye...
